ESET (Essential Security against Evolving Threats), an IT security company founded in 1992 in Slovakia. They offer antivirus and firewall products for commercial and domestic and in 2008, 2009 and 2010 were awarded as the most successful Slovak company. In terms of products per Operating system, they keep the choice low by only offering 2 types of products; an Antivirus suite and Smart Security (the names differ per type of device you purchase them for. They do also offer one more suite which is global for all OSs. It’s a suite called ESET Multi-device security and covers multiple device (up to 10 per licence), hence the name but not only does it cover multiple devices it also gives you the ability to mix-and-match between which system you protect, either Windows, Mac or Android.
Features
Like we stated above, Eset Internet Security covers the basics very well but you shouldn’t expect anything more than this, now this isn’t always a bad thing, some programs that are loaded with features tend to be more memory hungry, causing your device to slow down dramatically. You won’t get this with ESET, the performance is award winning. You do however get enhanced features with Smart Security, but again you won’t get any bonus features. They concentrate on protection and not prevention, and to be fair to ESET, they do it very well.
Security
So the ESET support isn’t the best, but if you’ve got a reliable and easy to use piece of software, then poor support isn’t so much of an issue. ESET’s simple user interface and reliable scanning methods makes it a fantastic product to use, not to mention the awesome performance and lack of processing power required to run the program. ESET tend to be on top of the game when it comes to spotting new and mutated viruses, supposedly the best in the industry.
If you’re looking for an antivirus that will keep your mind at ease from potential internet nasties, ESET is worth a try!
Support
Support section from ESET is well designed, they make it obvious which direction you need to head into right from the outset. The contact us page is easily found, which clearly offers; email, live chat and sales support as well as a multitude of forums to access whenever you like.
Now if you’re in the UK, the support isn’t so great to say the least - no live chat and to get anywhere you’ll need to fill out a ridiculously long form. The knowledge base doesn’t live up to the competition either, with very limited ‘knowledge’, it doesn’t go much further than installation and activation support.
Affordability
ESET Internet Security is $49.99 per year for 1 device then just $10 extra per device after this. This makes it a relatively cheap product in the security suite world if you have many products but if you are just protection the 1 computer their are cheaper options. The features you get don’t match up to some, more expensive products out there but the one’s they supply are sufficient and will protect your computer very well. If you’re not looking to spend much but after some quality protection, ESET should definitely be worth a consideration!
